2018/2019 Registration & Bulk Order

Art lovers!

Registration is now open for the 2018/2019 session! We are again going to be meeting on the third Friday of every month from September through May.   Register online

Before you sign up, take a look at this year's bulk order.  As always, I work to keep the costs reasonable, and your time hunting for obscure art supplies to a minimum.  This year's frisket, white shrink film, and acrylic medium are going to be the most costly to obtain, so I highly encourage you to participate in the bulk order.  Remember, purchases are entirely optional, and you are welcome to use whatever supplies you have on hand.

2017/2018 Bulk Order

As always, in order to make your family's participation in SKETCH as easy and cost-effective as possible, we are putting together a bulk supply order.  The deadline for participation in the bulk order is August 20.  Late orders will not be accepted. Below is a listing of what you can expect to receive, along with links to Amazon should you want to purchase on your own.  Order forms are on the second page of the registration link.

$70 Complete Art Supply Kit:

contains everything you need for 1 person to complete every project

  • Scissors - sharp enough to cut both fabric and paper
  • everyday pencil – 1 per student
  • 2 quart size zip top storage bags - can be shared
  • Assorted fabric scraps of any kind – approx 1 yard - can be shared
  • Grout
  • Thin jute cord – approx 2 ft

Supply List 2017/2018

Do you remember the smell of a freshly opened box of crayons, or the soft feel of a brand new paintbrush?  I do.  They are memories full of happiness and creativity. At SKETCH we ask that families provide their own art supplies so that children have the opportunity to experiment at home, as well as in class. Please be aware that the links below connect to an affiliate account and anything you purchase will result in SKETCH receiving a portion of the proceeds at no cost to you.  You are by no means obligated to use these links.  Feel free to purchase from any source at all. Also, please note that while specific brands are listed, these are suggestions only.  I do this simply to help with the choosing process.  You will want decent quality products to allow your child the most success (avoid Roseart and generic brands) and avoid frustration, but unless there is a specific note, you may make any substitution. Finally, we place one bulk order at the beginning of each term in order to get the lowest possible costs.  If you would like to participate, take a look at the second half of our registration form.

Sketch classes are designed to work together, so students are encouraged to attend as often as possible.  Volunteer events, on the other hand, are entirely optional.  Please come volunteer if you are available, but we understand if the project or timing doesn't work for your family.  Thanks for all you do!

Registration & Bulk supply order 2016/2017

Update: 2016/2017 Class is now full.
Unless you have pre-registered or communicated with me directly, registrations received after 9:30PM on Mon Aug 15 will be placed on the wait list. As soon as space becomes available, students in the wait list will be notified.

New season, new art supplies!  So exciting.

The 7th season of SKETCH is starting soon!  We will again be meeting from 6:30-8:00PM on the 3rd Friday of each month from September through May.  This year we will be focusing on fiber arts and ink, while working to benefit the NH foodbank, our local emergency responders, and more.  A full list of our exciting line-up of artists, mediums, and community outreach efforts is available within our schedule for the year.  Make sure to mark your calendar!

Registration

SKETCH is intentionally designed as a family program, so don't worry if you will have a crying baby in tow.  Lessons are approachable for elementary students, and teens are offered their own level of challenge.  

Registration fills quickly, and there is always a wait-list, so please make sure to submit your response as quickly as possible.  This year we are trying out a new system for online registration (you will find it at the bottom of this page). If you encounter any problems at all, please contact me.  My goal is to make this process easier for you rather than more difficult.

Update: Registration is now closed however you are welcome to join our wait list by simply emailing sheryl goedecke at yahoo dot com.

Bulk Art Supply Order

You may choose either the complete kit or the basic kit, and then include any add-ons you'd like.  In order to keep the prices affordable I am not able to purchase add-ons for anyone not purchasing a kit, and I am unable to substitute, add, or delete items from the kits.  Thank you for understanding.

Preparation for 2015/2016

I can't tell you how much fun I've been having pulling together plans for the sixth year of SKETCH.


As a quick update, we will continue to meet on the 3rd Friday of each month (any exceptions will be noted on the class calendar).  This year we will be covering the art of Chagall, Calder, Rockwell, and more.  I'm especially excited to offer our students the opportunity to learn how to fuse glass with the help of local artists.

Keep an eye on the class site!  I am beginning to pull together our supply lists and calendar, and will post them as they are finished.  Class registration will begin on August 1st.  If you'd like a reminder e-mail just pop me a message and I will add you to my list.

2013 Registration

Sketch is Back!!!

I am so excited to announce that art classes will begin again in January 2013.  I truly am looking forward to sharing another year with you.

We will be meeting from 6:30 - 8:00 PM on the 3rd Friday of each month.  During this session of SKETCH we will be exploring the works of Kandinsky, Escher, Seurat, and Michelangelo, and we will have a lot of fun helping others at the same time.

The registration process is simple. Just e-mail me to let me know to reserve your spot, then right click on the images below and print the registration forms.  Bring the form along with a one time fee of $15 (per family, not per student) to New Hope Christian Fellowship at the time of your first class. Registration is accepted on a 1st come, 1st served basis and remains open until our space is filled.  Returning students will be have 1 week advance notice of registration before I advertise the class to others.

*NOTE* it is very important that you e-mail me as soon as possible.  This is the only way that I will know to expect you.


Hmm... I just noticed that the form says $25 per family - know that that is wrong.  The fee is $15 per family this year.  I will try to get back and change it as soon as possible.

What age are SKETCH students?

I have been getting quite a few e-mails with similar questions, so I posted a FAQ page.

The biggest question seems to be about age, so I'll do my best to explain how it works. Sketch is designed to be a program that families can attend together. The moms chat, the kids get messy, the babies chew on crayons, and the dads drink coffee and talk sports.

My goal in organizing it this way was to give families a break - we are pulled in a thousand directions at once and it is nice to work on something together for a change. Any age can attend. Honestly. Toddlers are welcome and teens are too. It sounds like a recipe for disaster, but because parents are right there beside their own kids, it has actually worked out quite successfully.

Lessons are presented in layers. Overview instruction is targeted toward the elementary students, but then additional instruction is offered 1:1 to the older and more experienced students as they work on their projects.

Schedule / Calendar

October 12 - Program overview - Visual exercises & line analysis.
Children will be creating a blended washable marker project that they can use as the cover of their portfolio to hold their artwork for the year.

November 9 - Vincent Van Gogh - Oil pastels, drawing with texture
Community Service: Artwork will be printed onto onesies and given to infants in need through Care Net Pregnancy Center.

December 14 - Piet Mondrian - Mondarin’s balance, Paper Collage, shape, color,
line and value
Community Service: Artwork will be made into ornaments which will be displayed on the new Bedford town common.

January 11 - Mary Cassat - Pastel strokes, color & line, cut & mounted pastels
Community Service: Artwork will be printed onto gift tags which will be attached to new socks for elderly residents of the local long term care facility.

February 8 - Pablo Picasso - Black marker and Chalk Stain, cubist composition,
Community Service: Artwork will be use to decorate boxes which will be filled with treats for the workers at the local town offices

March 8 - Winslow Homer - Value scale, Cut paper and crayon seascapes using
black & white values
Community Service: Artwork will be used as the cover art for coloring books to be delivered to the local pediatric emergency room.

April 12 - Claude Monet - Tempera impressionistic color wheels & trees
Community Service: Artwork will be made into cards that students will mail to active-duty military personnel.

May 10 - Family celebration and art show.

Basic Program Information

Welcome to SKETCH!

We are a service oriented art program open to children of any age. In our pressure-free environment, children will experiment with many different art materials, become aware of basic formal art techniques, and learn to recognize and appreciate the work of master artists. Our highest goal, however, is not simply to teach art principles, but to show children that one of the greatest joys in creating art is sharing it with others. Each project is intentionally designed as a community support effort, and copies of the children’s artwork will be used to adorn new clothes for the needy, gifts for the sick, messages to our soldiers, and more.

During the course of this class we will be looking at the work of VanGogh, Cassatt, Mondrian, Picasso, Monet, & Homer.  The instruction part of the class comes first, and will take 20 min or so, then the kids will break out their supplies. We will have a few hands on activities to fully demonstrate the artistic principle covered in our lesson (balance, texture, etc.), and then they will be turned loose to simply create.

The cost for the 2010 program is $10 per family for the year, payable at time of registration. Checks may be written to “New Hope Christian Fellowship.”

Please be aware that this is not a drop-off group. We encourage parents to learn alongside their children. For the safety of the children, there will be no exceptions. The best way to encourage artistic experimentation is to model it yourself, so pull up a chair, grab a crayon, and join the fun.
